TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS
Understanding Communications
Transactional Analysis (TA) is the study of how we communicate. It looks at both what is going on inside us and how we interact with others.
Originally developed by Eric Berne, over 40 years ago, during his work as a psychotherapist and counsellor, it has been further developed and enhanced by leading TA thinkers and practitioners including: Claude Steiner, Taibi Kahler, Fanita English, Bob & Mary Goulding, Jacqui Lee Schiff and Pat Crossman.
Berne’s book ‘Games People Play’ was an international best-seller and helped to establish TA as an accessible and useful method for people to learn about themselves, change behaviours and communicate more effectively.
It is currently used across the world in psychotherapy, education and organisational development.
We use some of the key concepts as part our coaching and development work, including:
- Ego States
- Transactions
- Contracting
- Driver Behaviour
- Time Structuring
- Discounting
- Injunctions
- Permissions
These concepts enable people to understand how and why they act in the way they do and to make long lasting changes to their professional lives.
